Shipping out yarn

Froebe Fibers No Comments »

Froebe Fibers had a busy weekend!  We have a new shipment of yarn heading out to Yarns To Dye For & More in Frankfort, and we have orders heading out tomorrow to Homewood, IL and Virginia Beach, VA.

Looks like we’ve got a fair bit of dyeing to do to get caught up.  I love it!

Willows growing every day

The boy was supposed to have his school pictures taken yesterday, but the photographer was sick and so they were rescheduled.  A proactive dad decided to step up and take class pictures since the kids were already all dressed up and jazzed about having their pictures taken.

Asher is in the center back, in a handknit sweater of course.

Festival Season!

I am exhausted.  Seriously.  In a fantastic way.  I got home around 11 last night from SIFAF in Corydon Indiana.  We had such a great time at the festival.  We met wonderful people, got to pet llamas and alpacas, sold a decent amount of yarn, and even had yummy fried green tomatoes, fresh from someone’s garden!  Life doesn’t get much better than that.

On our way home, Mom found Barking Dog Cafe in Indianapolis, continuing our record of always eating way too well on show weekends.  If you are ever in Indy, stop by and try their amazing clam chowder, and whatever the entree special is that day.  You will not be disappointed!

So, I managed to get the kids to sleep a little after midnight, and collapsed into dreamland myself.

This morning I’m lazing around, but before you know it we need to get hoping as we have another show coming up this weekend!

Fiber Expo in Ann Arbor, MI is breathing down our necks and we have so much to do.  It should be a great weekend, come out and see us!

Did I mention I really love this time of year?  Okay, off to find some coffee.  I need some kickapoo-joy-juice.

Stores, shops, and wonderment!

We’ve been incredibly busy at Froebe Fibers, which is no excuse for ignoring the blog, I know, however . . .    Okay, I’m ending that sentence before it becomes unreadable!

I just got back from Stitches Midwest, were I had way too much fun partying with so many friends.  I personally snagged some great yarn for my stash, lots of nifty new tools, and bags for storing my tools!  I also drank more than should be allowed, but we won’t talk about that.  No, really, we won’t.  You’ll just have to look at others photos from Stitches if you want to see how outrageous we got, but I will say there were Sushi PJ’s and bunny ears involved!

Well, at Stitches I realized that I hadn’t announced all the amazing stores that now carry Froebe Fiber’s Yarns!  So, if you want to find us in your neck of the woods, check out:

  • Art 4 Soul –Homewood, IL
  • The Fold —Marango, IL
  • Yarn to Dye for and More — Frankfort, IL
  • Prairie Yarns — Fargo, ND
  • Pam’s Knit ‘N’ Stitch — Great Falls, MT
  • Y’Arnings — Helena, MT
  • The Whole Ball of Yarn — The Dalles, OR

More to follow, exciting news coming up.  Honest this time!  Oh, and I’ve missed you all!

New Yarns!

Hello hello, long time no see.

I seem to be saying that a lot lately.  Well, Froebe Fibers have been busy little bees, and we now have two new yarn colors for you!

Sapphire Martini YarnSapphire Martini is my personal favorite.  So much so that I snagged the very first skein as soon as it was dry for my own personal stash.

It is mostly blue, but has lovely dark violet variegation and the colors just pop.

I’m debating making socks (of course), or perhaps a shawl.

What do you think?

Of course, Sapphire Martini and Purple Viking (along with all of our other yarns) are available on our website, but we are also now in three, count them, three brick and mortar stores!  Art 4 Soul in Homewood, The Fold in Marengo, and Yarns to Dye For & More in Frankfort.  See, we have been busy bees!

Oh, what is Purple Viking you ask?  It’s our other yummy new colorway!

Purple Viking YarnJust look at all that luscious purple!  Each skein of Froebe Fibers yarn is hand dyed individually, so no two are exactly alike.  There are several shades and hues of purple in Purple Viking, and while not variegated per se, the yarn does give a nice color variety, without striping for a more “natural” effect.

Can one say a purple yarn looks natural?  Well, I think I just did!

So, come into the local yarn stores, or look for us at your nearest Yarn Festival!  We’re heading to a bunch of them this summer and fall.  I’ll post the list shortly, so keep your eyes peeled!

More goodies coming your way soon!

Why am I calling this my “Not So Much Knitting Blog”?

blogging, knitting 5 Comments »

Why am I calling this my “Not So Much Knitting Blog” lately?  Probably because my knitting mojo is gone gone gone.  I’m so tired, all the time, and knitting just isn’t fun anymore.  I still love looking at patterns, fingering and even buying yarn, planning out projects, and sorting through the yarn stash.

I just am not loving the actual knitting.

It feels like just one more thing on my to-do list.

I’ve completed one lonely knitting project this year.  Yes, you read that right.  One.  I’m embarrassed.

Can I be a knitter if I’m not knitting?

I don’t know.

What I do know, is that dealing with two toddlers 24/7 has me worn out.  My wonderful husband has been pretty much absent lately, as work has been requiring 90+ hour weeks from him since Passover.  I don’t understand it, but apparently they can get away with it.  So, by the time I get the kids down at night, I pretty much collapse into a quivering puddle of exhaustion.

Knitting isn’t something that is interesting me.  I wish it would.  I miss the relaxation, the de-stressing, the feeling of accomplishment I used to get from knitting.

I trust that my mojo will return.  I just don’t know when.

My friend Knitterary says sometime after the kids start school.  I fear she may be right.

I always knew the Fraggles Rocked!

Miriam’s Sweater

Family, kids, knitting, SnB 1 Comment »

Back when my dad had his first surgery, January 22nd, I started this sweater for Miriam.  I worked on it during his surgeries, and while visiting him in ICU, in his regular hospital room, and in rehab.  I finished the knitting ages and ages ago, but the finishing took forever.  I’m not very good at finishing work, but I think the results are worth it.

Miriam's Sweater

Now if I could just get her to keep it on, we’d be in great shape!

I did it!  They said it couldn’t be done. They laughed. They chuckled. Some even guffawed.  One even suggested that the only reason I got pregnant again (aside from being afraid of learning how to ski) was to have a chance to finish this sweater.

Well they were wrong!

Bump Sweater

BWA HA HA!

I did it!  Cast on back in August of (eep!) 2007, this sweater is finished and wearable as of today, January 11th, 2009.

Okay, so I’m not 100% thrilled with the organza ribbon, but I can wear it as is, and keep my eyes open for a better ribbon.

I did it!!!

14 miles of freaking stockinette, but it is done! Woohoo!

Chicago’s YarnCon 2008 was a rousing success!  We had such a great time, and a huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported us at our very first show!  We met some wonderful new people, and saw some old friends who’ve been missed.
