Miriam’s Sweater

Family, kids, knitting, SnB 1 Comment »

Back when my dad had his first surgery, January 22nd, I started this sweater for Miriam.  I worked on it during his surgeries, and while visiting him in ICU, in his regular hospital room, and in rehab.  I finished the knitting ages and ages ago, but the finishing took forever.  I’m not very good at finishing work, but I think the results are worth it.

Now if I could just get her to keep it on, we’d be in great shape!

I’m back to my knitting!  I told you things would get back to normal sooner, rather than later.

Crayon vomit socks

I’ve finished my Crayon-Vomit-Socks!  Three weeks ago (is it really that long ago?), I worked on them at SnB three days before my wedding.  Hmm.  Worked on.  Doesn’t that sound like progress was made?  I should rephrase that.  Three weeks ago at SnB, I really bulloxed up my crayon-vomit socks.  I twisted the toe decreases so badly that I was scared to even go back and try to correct the poor crooked toed socks.

Yesterday rolled around and I knew I couldn’t go to this week’s SnB with no progress made on the poor little socks, the socks that wouldn’t end.  So, I sat down (with a glass of sherry) and frogged back.  Eventually I got to a straight decrease, and picked up again.  I managed to finish the socks in time to actually wear them to SnB.

Three cheers for me!

So, my socks were done, and I had nothing to work on at SnB.  (I didn’t feel like dragging either blanket with me.)  Considering the gorgeous hand-made quilts (yes, multiple) that we received as wedding presents, I’m too embarrassed by my own blanket making abilities to pick them up again for a wee bit).

Anyway, I needed a new project.

Seeing as both of Mr. K2P2′s yarmulkas are green, I think he needs a blue one.  Especially taking into consideration that his tallis is blue.  So, I cast on for yet another yarmulka.  I really enjoy making these.  They are impressive and quick.

One more row to go, and then I shift to the sides.  My increases are almost done.

I’m thinking about making a modification to the side pattern.  Anyone out there have a good small pattern for a Mogen David?  (Jewish star)

tiny toes sock

After several weeks of non-attendance, due mostly to my own hectic life of wedding planning,
meetings, and of course, getting sick, this was my first meeting in I think 3 weeks.  Everyone was glad to see me, and even more glad to show off their work since last time.

My own knitting time has been pretty much nill, so my poor little sock is showing nearly no growth whatsoever, and we aren’t even going to discuss my shameful lack of progress on the log-cabin-blanket.

Group consensus is that this Tiny Toes colorway should be renamed crayon-boc-vomit, but we all like it anyway.

Kris's Clapotis

Showing much more progress, Kris’s clapotis is absolutely gorgeous.  I wish I knew what yarn she is using, but the color just blows me away.  I know that it is a wool/silk blend, and cuddly just doesn’t begin to describe it.  She better be careful or some members of the group may try to steal it from her!

Not only is the shawl/scarf just the loveliest thing, but Kris is no slouch herself.  She always looks so put together, I’d have to start hating her if she weren’t such a good friend.

debbie bliss project TBD

Moving on, we have two projects just being cast-on, one is an entrelac dishcloth out of kitchen cotton, knit by a woman far braver than I, and the other is a debbie bliss project as yet to be determined, but with 8 skeins, I think it will be quite something.  Rumor has it that the debbie bliss will become a tank top, but nothing is set in stone.

bamboo tank topLast but not least, we have a tank top on the needles knit out of the softest bamboo.  Who would have thought a few years back that we’d be knitting with bamboo?   I have to admit that it is soft, lux stuff.

With any luck, I’ll make some progress on one project or another today and have something to show tomorrow.

Hello again

I know it’s been ages and ages since my last post.  Sorry about that.  Things around here got a wee little bit hectic, what with wedding planning, overtime hours, and assorted other chazeri.

I have lots and lots to share with you today though!

 yarmulka in progress

I started the yarmulka for our wedding.   This was progress made at Stitch n’ Bitch two weeks ago.  Not very much I’m aware, but that’s okay because I came home and ripped it all out since I didn’t like how many mistakes I had made.  (Perfectionist?  Who me?)

A few days later, it looked something like this. finished yarmulka unblocked As you can see, I’ve got all the ends woven in, but it looks more like a skaters’ cap made out of finest silk that a Bucharian Yarmulka.

The wonders of blocking await!

Moving on (I warned you I have lots to share), at that same Stitch n Bitch meeting two weeks ago, I took a few pictuers.  Our lovely ladies were working on:

  • 1 ribbon shawl
  • 3 baby blankets
  • 2 yarmulkas
  • 1 felt mancala board
  • 1 clapotis
  • 1 pair of socks

Just a few things on the needles, right?
